With its serene, rural perspective on death, the Merry Cemeter of Sapânta is close to the Sighet Prison Memorial remembering the victims of the Communist repression and to the Elie Wiesel Memorial House commemorating the infamous 1944 deportation of the Jewish population to Nazi camps.
