Slightly astray of the ridge line of Fagaras mountains and right in the middle of the ridge, the summit of Vânătarea lui Buteanu (2,507 m.) offers wonderful views both towards the peaks to the east and to the west.
Unfortunately, when we shot the video below, clouds covered most of the eastern ridge, towards Moldoveanu and Viștea Mare peaks - the two summits joined by a ridge that forms the "roof" of Romania. Nevertheless, there were beautiful views towards Negoiu, Lespezi and Cornul Călțunului peaks and, of course, towards Capra Lake.
Close to the Transfăgărășan mountain road, at 1h30'-2h from Bâlea Lake and hut, Buteanu is the most accessible peak over 2,500 m in the Făgăraș mountains. Its ascent involves a short, more technical passage towards the end of the trail, secured with chains.
